What is an Instructional Designer?

An instructional designer is the professional  practical, compliant and genuinely fit for purpose. It is not about formatting content into a course — it is about designing how people learn, apply and are assessed on what they know.

The role sits at the intersection of pedagogy, emerging technology and regulatory compliance. In fields like applied blockchain, artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital transformation and management, that intersection is where most learning fails or succeeds.

AI has changed assessment. It has also exposed it.

Assessment integrity does not mean banning technology. It means designing assessment that remains valid when AI is available:

The question is no longer whether AI can generate materials, but whether those materials produce valid learning and credible performance outcomes.
